HOW BACKLINKS WORK
YOU GET BETTER WITH PRACTICE
Backlinks are like practice. The more you do the better you get.
Want to be a great dancer, golfer, cook, teacher? The more your practice your craft the better you will get.
Same with backlinks - the more backlinks you get the better your site will rank.
Let's say you wanted to be a great runner. First - practice will help you become a better athlete. There is no question about that. In fact, without practice - without training - you CAN'T be a great runner.
Now does that mean you will win every race. Of course not. Practice will make you better - not necessarily the best.
In addition to practice you need to have some physical ability and you need to be running in races that you are qualified to run in.
Backlinks will make your site better. There is no question about that. In fact, without backlinks - you CAN'T have a top ranking site (except maybe for some obscure keywords).
So does that mean all I have to do is create a few backlinks and my site will be number one? Of course not. You need to have a well optimized site to begin with and your success will depend on what races you are entering - i.e. what keywords you are going after and what the competition is like.
When we get complaints (and thankfully it's not too often) the biggest complaint we get is "Well I tried it for a month and it didn't work"
That is not surprising. Backlinks are necessary. They are required. But they are not an instant cure. It can take a bit of time to get a site to the top.
You work at creating backlinks. It's part of marketing on the net. You have to create them. But in addition to the backlinks you must make sure that (a) you select the appropriate keywords to go after (i.e. what races you should enter) and (b) that your site is optimized for those keywords (and don't go changing your site every 2 days - at least the page you are promoting)
Build a good website - with unique relevant content. Pick keywords to go after that offer you a reasonable chance of success and then create backlinks.
How long will it take to become a winner? Maybe a few months. Maybe longer. It really depends on what you are going after. It depends on how good your site is. It depends on how many backlinks you create. It depends on how much competition is ahead of you. It's complicated and it is not necessarily easy.
But if you want to be on top - you do NOT have a choice about whether to create backlinks or not. It's not an option. It's a prerequisite for doing business on the net.
So when we hear the comment "they didn't work" - they did work. Backlinks always work. Just like practice will always make you a bit better - backlinks will always help your site. But you need to be realistic and understand what races you are entering. And you need to have a website that is capable of winning. You can't just throw anything up on the net and say - OK make me number one. Google doesn't want losers at the top of the search results. They want winners.
If you want to be at the top of your field you practice - you train. You work hard at perfecting your craft. If you want to be at the top of the search engines - create a good website - pick races you can win and then go build backlinks.
